Pelvic inflammatory disease (PID) is a general term for infectious diseases of the female upper reproductive tract.The PID includes various diseases such as endometritis, myometritis, tubo-ovarian inflammation, tubo-ovarian abscess, hydrosalpinx,and pelvic peritonitis, etc. This article reviews the definition, classification, etiology and clinical manifestations of PID. Its focus is ondiscussion of preventive measures for PID such as personal hygiene, sexual hygiene and standardized medical procedures to emphasizethe importance of health education. Our aim is to enhance women's awareness and prevention of PID. These will provide scientific basisand guidance for PID prevention and health education.
